Everything tastes like chicken

Have you ever heard someone say something that just catches you off guard? Well, I guess people can say a lot of things that catch you off guard but I'm talking about something that makes you stop and say "I never thought of it that way before." Often, it isn't even something that is mind boggling news. It's just a thought that had never made its way through your thought process.

I had one of those moments not too long ago. I was praying with some friends and we were just praising God for how awesome he is. In the middle of prayer someone said something to the tune of, "God, I thank you for your creativity. You could have made everything the same but instead you gave us different textures, tastes, scents, and colors."

*insert screeching tire sound here*

She thanked God for his diversity in creativity. Her prayer made me stop and think what life would be like if everything was the same. What if every food actually did taste like chicken? Chocolate cake, a ripe peach, lasagna, all tasting like chicken. That would sooooo NOT be funny. It kinda reminded me of those science fiction movies where everyone is dressed the same standing in line for a dollop of some engineered food that looks like mashed potatoe slop but contains everything the human body needs to survive. Ummm... delicious. I applied the same thought to textures. If you've seen the movie Amelie I immediately am reminded how she would plunge her hand into a barrel of dry lentils because she loved the feeling on her hand or even how she loved to pick up smooth stones. Imagine stopping to smell the roses and realizing the roses smelled like... well... chicken. Again, that would sooooo NOT be funny.

Anyway, I'm not sure if that thought has ever crossed your mind but I had to admit that the thought kinda caught me off guard but it was a pleasant surprise. I guess it just opened my eyes to another something to praise God for.

God is Everywhere!

creativityencouraged blog

Just a few simple words that came to me as I was praying last week about God in our everyday lives...

God made the universe and everything in it. He created the desires within us that make beautiful things (poetry, music, paintings, etc.), and he also created the individual ways that we respond to such beauty. He created the materials that we use to make everything we use and wear (cars, clothes, stoves, etc.). He created our dogs and cats which are cute little furry balls of love to make us smile when we come home from work. And he created each one of us - every line in our fingerprints, every speck of pigment in our eyes, every hair on our body. Just think - every time you look into someone else's eyes, you are looking into a living breathing soul created by God. If they are a believer, you are essentially looking at God himself because he lives inside our souls. But even the eyes of unbelieving souls contain an echo of the Lord because he created them, and everyone knows that when you create something a piece of you will always live inside that work. So, you are essentially walking on holy ground everywhere you tread on this Earth! It is impossible to be physically far from God at any point in time.
